HOW OFFSET WORKS
Offset printing is the best economical option for large runs of printing. Unlike photocopies, the image can be imprinted hundreds of thousands of times without degrading the quality of the product. In effect, the more you buy, the cheaper it is. While impractical for under 250 sheets of paper, offset offers a unique alternative in the fact that you can pick any ink color (not just black) for the finished product.
Offset printing works because water and the inks used in the printing process do not mix. The images to be printed are created on the computer and then "burned" onto metal plates using a chemical developing process similar to photography. The metal plates are dampened with water which adheres to the areas without images. The ink is added next, one color at a time, where it sticks to the areas with images. On sheet-fed presses, the substrate is fed into the press one sheet at a time at a very high speed. Offset printing, also referred to as offset lithography, is a type of printing process used by virtually all large commercial printers. It is called offset, because the ink is not directly pressed onto the paper, but is distributed from a metal plate to a rubber mat where it is then set onto the paper. |

FULL COLOR
Anytime you want to reproduce a color photo or logo, it is considered “FULL COLOR, OR 4-Color CMYK.”
Short for Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, and pronounced as separate letters. CMYK is a color model in which all colors are described as a mixture of these four process colors.
CMYK is the standard color model used in offset printing for full-color documents. Because such printing uses inks of these four basic colors, it is often called four-color printing. |
